Powerplay is a high-intensity multiplayer arena game that uses energy as an ammo system. Energy is at the same time the power you use to survive and the weapon you fire. It will test both your fighting skills and your ability to work as a team at a high level of tension. In essence, energy is your life bar, and you will be able to attack, heal, or do just about anything you desire by spending your energy points. Collect the scattered energy cells around the map, because they will be very important to your life, abilities, and arsenal; but keep in mind that each action will drain the energy bar, which means managing defence, attack, and movement at all times is of paramount importance. Your “weapon loadout” is energy-dependent; you can switch between a high-damage railgun, rapid-fire arc cannon, and short-range shotgun, and varying energy costs and cooldown times will be factors. “Power surge” is a system that rewards you for doing well with bonuses in the form of increased damage or speed, but at the same time draws the attention of the enemy team. You get your “voltage meter,” from which the amount of the team’s overall energy reserves is determined; an overflowing meter means a very strong team-wide ult ability. A depleted meter indicates a weak team, one that is easy to target for power surging. Movement and exploration happen across a series of 5 exciting, constantly changing arenas: the Turbine Complex, the Solar Array, the Geothermal Core, the Wind Farm, and the Lightning Spire. These places are dangerous; electrified floors and other hazards will be among the challenges you will face. Players can engage in a variety of competitive modes in multiplayer; the game is capable of switching from a symmetrical battle to an asymmetrical one. Some interesting mode variants, such as “core defense,” are even possible when the two-sided struggle consists of protecting and attacking the very power source. You live through all this only because you are not doomed forever, which gives rise to the only factor of power, the “voltage score” that shows how dominant a team is.
