Security 51 is a stressful, atmospheric survival horror game set in a top-secret, abandoned military base, where the player controls a single security guard investigating a catastrophic containment failure. The main element of the game is “surveillance and survival” – you have to watch the camera feeds, walk along the dark corridors, restore power, and repair the systems to gain access to new areas, all while avoiding hostile creatures that have escaped from their cells. The only tools you have are your flashlight and motion detector; the flashlight shows you any hidden dangers and clues, while the motion detector informs you when there is movement nearby, although both of these tools use up battery power. The “lockdown protocol” lets you close doors, switch on emergency systems, and set traps to delay or escape enemies. Exploration takes place in five creepy sections of the facility – the Containment Zone, the Research Lab, the Maintenance Tunnels, the Server Room and the Command Centre – each of which contains environmental puzzles, audio logs and a tragic backstory.
