Forsaken Realms: Vahrin’s Call is a dark fantasy action-RPG that draws players into the deteriorating, cursed world of Ebrion, where an ancient evil entity named Vahrin has risen from centuries of dormancy and spread a corrupting blight across the land. The player assumes the role of a Forsaken—a warrior once mortal, now brought back to life with only fragmented memories and linked to a sentient object known as the Echo-Shard, which acts as both a weapon and a guide. The game centres on intense, deliberate combat combined with dangerous exploration: players move through decaying kingdoms, haunted forests, and underground necropolises, all rendered in a bleak, low-fantasy style.

Using the Echo-Shard, players can “resonate” with the environment to discover hidden routes, ancient knowledge, and enemy weak points. However, the device also drains stamina and must be managed carefully. Players will explore and gather lost relics, crafting materials, and bits of the protagonist’s past. The blight corrupts the landscape in real time, changing enemy appearances and environmental hazards simultaneously.

Combat in Vahrin’s Call is intentional and stamina-based, placing greater emphasis on timing, positioning, and adaptability than on mindlessly pressing buttons. Each player uses a main melee weapon (such as a sword, axe, or flail) together with a secondary ranged one (like a crossbow, thrown javelins, or arcane bolts), and every attack drains stamina, which recovers slowly when the player is not active. The game features a Momentum System in which a series of continuous attacks fills a momentum meter. When this meter is full, it enables powerful “Shatter” abilities that can break an enemy’s armour or stagger bosses. Yet if the player dodges at the wrong time, blocks an attack that shouldn’t be blocked, or takes damage, the meter resets, penalising carelessness.

The enemies are diverse and difficult: corrupted knights fight in coordinated formations, blighted beasts carry out unblockable charge attacks, and spectral wraiths move between dimensions, so the player must time their attacks to match the resonance pulses of the Echo-Shard. The parry feature is high-risk, high-reward: if done correctly, it stuns the opponent and lets the player deliver a satisfying finishing blow, but if the parry fails, the player is left vulnerable and is often killed as a result. Healing is very limited and depends on a small number of alchemical poultices and campfires, which act as rare checkpoints, thus adding to the game’s intense, survival-horror-like atmosphere.

In addition to combat and exploration, Forsaken Realms provides thorough RPG progression via a classless skill system that lets players spend their experience points on three interconnected trees: the Blade (for offensive melee skills), the Shade (for stealth, shadow-walking, and precise ranged attacks), and the Soul (for resistance to arcane effects, the manipulation of Echo-Shards, and healing efficiency). The trees can be combined in any way desired, enabling hybrid character builds such as a stealthy greatsword assassin or a heavily armoured spell-sword.

The story is based on a branching faction allegiance system, where players are forced to pick between the failing loyalist kingdom, the frantic resistance rebels, or the nihilistic cult worshiping Vahrin, with each option offering different questlines, unique equipment, and a major impact on the ending of the game. The famous “Vahrin’s Call” is a passive, whispering voice, increasing in volume as the game progresses, luring players with power-ups for morality or friendly NPCs, creating a constant struggle for survival or humanity. The end goal is to kill Vahrin, cage it again, or take its power and become the new tyrant. Whatever happens will have a lasting effect on the future of Ebrion and what remains of civilization on its ravaged surface.
