Empire of the Ants develops a fresh strategic turn based on ant colonies, which are considerably more complex than they might first appear. Diamonds is a series of simulation games based on a board established in a well-built microcosm where everyone is a leader of colonies, being in charge of resources, space, and problems in a very real-looking environment. That means not only direct combat with other colonies but also with the changing seasons as players will have to balance their action and resource utilization, be it food or structures, with the need to protect against natural threats in the form of predators. The game contains an AI system that makes every species act differently, meaning that planning an attack, recon, or using territories in the best way possible is possible only after studying respective AI values.

The main theme is the growth of the colony, with the help of various tasks being solved through the use of work, soldiers, and queen ants, all of which are endowed with certain abilities, as well as restrictions. Tactical depth is, of course, also present through elaborate pheromone trails, through which players can better control the movement of their ants, whether on a foraging or a combat mission. Empire of the Ants lets players experience living in a world of ants, a world that few people know and even fewer are able to see, and each of your actions affects the game; it is a strategy in which players must carefully observe, plan, and adjust.
