Cat Chess is a new twist on the traditional chess game with cats, where players use a classic chess board setting and add feline elements. The game incorporates strategy, randomness, and fun to create a unique and fun game. “Cat pieces” are the center of the action; each standard chess piece is replaced with a different breed of cat (Persian, Siamese, Maine Coon, Sphynx, Bengal, etc.), and they each have unique and cat-like move patterns. For instance, a Persian cat can ‘pounce’, i.e., attack from a distance of two squares, but the cat takes quite a while to arrive at the destination! Whereas Bengals move in a zigzag path quickly and can only be stopped by a cat of equal or higher rank. A Sphynx gets to slip away (i.e., teleport once) thanks to their ‘slippery’ feature, that is to say without leaving a clue where it came from or went! You can also download Toy Keeper.

Your cat focuses, and their cat treat balance is related; each cat has their own focus time, but if something shiny, a toy, or a moving item (i.e., laser pointer) is introduced, their curiosity may take them away from the board altogether to follow it. You lose control at this point until you use up treats to get a cat under control. When using “furniture, ” the board is set with interactive obstacles such as scratching posts, cat trees, and fishbowls, which may block pathways or allow hiding places. “Multiplayer” is for either face-to-face gameplay or playing online. “Cat chaos” is an exciting mode with random events (a big dog coming through the room) that mess up the game. Under “customization”, you can unlock new breeds and board styles; even personalize your cat pieces! The “Practice mode” features puzzles where you have to resolve cat-themed chess scenarios.
