In Rock Bottom, players journey down the crushing depths of a collapsed underground mining colony. In the aftermath, a lone survivor is forced to dig, scavenge, and survive as they travel through a maze of tunnels that are constantly collapsing and enemies that pop out from everywhere. The main loop is based on “resource excavation”; the player has to obtain different kinds of raw materials such as coal, iron, and minerals through mining in the game so that they can make tools, weapons, and shelter. The player is required to master different tools and techniques for every mining process. The “Exploration” element of the game takes the player through the “Abyssal Mines”, an environment generated procedurally that constitutes a labyrinth with five different areas of depth: the Shallow Digs, the Crystal Caverns, the Magma Core, the Rooted Tunnels, and the Sunken City. You can use the “scrap system” to recover broken machinery and take it apart for parts that you will put together into better gear or new facilities.
