In Unlucky Mummy, the game, you become an ancient Egyptian pharaoh who gets a curse at the same time, which makes it an endless streak of bad luck. You have the task of running through the crumbling pyramid and discovering hidden areas with treasures. This adventure game mixes puzzle-solving, resource management, and slapstick comedy. You are going to be haunted by different kinds of “curses” every time you arrive at your room, which will make your curse worse or your movement slower. For instance, you might have “slippery sandals” making your steps unbalanced, or a “reverse control” that will switch your left and right buttons, which will be a nightmare for a player who is used to playing games using left control. At the same time, every time you figure out the solution to a puzzle or find a treasure, your “luck meter” increases, whereas getting yourself caught by traps or not doing a challenge well decreases your luck meter. As your level of luck goes down, your character is affected by more powerful and frequent bad-luck-related events. There’s a limited number of health points represented by your bandages, which can be found inside the pyramid, and you have to utilize them to fix your mummy’s decaying body. The player is able to move around and find different cursed tombs, namely: The Tomb of Whispers, the Chamber of Shifting Sands, the Hall of Broken Mirrors, the Vault of Eternal Echoes, and the Crypt of the Pharaoh of the First. All of these tombs offer players not only puzzles, but also lots of hidden rooms which can contain treasures or other exciting items. There are plenty of different kinds of traps to make things more interesting too. “Artifact system” is a kind of reward mechanism for exploration. When you uncover ancient relics (artifacts), you get a temporary boost; for example, a “sunstone” will help you navigate through dark rooms easily, whereas wearing a “scarab brooch” will help you catch traps once each time in a certain place.
