In Ritus Exorcismus, fans of horror and jigsaw will meet each other halfway as players take the role of a disgraced Vatican exorcist with only a worn-out Latin hymnal and a candle for a light. The game combines the concept of ritual precision, linguistic deduction, and psychological horror to gradually evolve into a supernatural thriller. At the heart of gameplay lies “daemon nomenclature”; each possessed entity hides a true name derived from scrap scripture fragments. You must biopsy biblical passages, apocryphal texts, and environmental clues (scratched walls, inverted crucifixes, victim diaries) to find the correct pronunciation. By pronouncing the name wrongly, you will trigger a “mockery phase, ” during which the demon will ridicule you by briefly possessing surrounding objects (books flying, walls dripping with blood, radiators screaming) and remove one of your revealed syllables. Real-time performance of the stages of the exorcism ritual: “interrogation” involves asking the possessed victim questions while finding out demonic lies from the human truths left after possession; “invective” requires reciting psalm verses by the demon’s vocal patterns; and “expulsion” is a breath-control mini-game in which you have to chant the true name without breathing, shown as a lung meter getting smaller. Exploration is on the “Perdition Houses”, five procedurally arranged locations (the Attic of Whispers, the Cellar of Echoes, the Chapel of Blight, the Nursery of Stillness, and the Study of Sealed Eyes), each featuring a different possession vector (a doll with buttons missing, a mirror that shows the wrong room, a music box that plays backward lullabies). Unlike health, “faith reservoir” is a capacity; doing correct rituals will fill it, but seeing traumatic events like (a levitating bed, a statue performing self-flagellation) will cause it to leak, and draining it completely will make your character run away from the exorcism, which in turn will lead to the permanent death of the victim.
