Thousand Floors is a vigorous, vertically oriented action-roguelike game that forces players to climb up a procedurally generated tower consisting of a thousand floors, each of which contains deadly traps, fierce enemies, and limited resources. The main gameplay loop is based on “perilous progression”, meaning that you have to carefully manage your health, stamina, and consumables as you decide whether to fight, sneak, or sprint past the threats to get to the elevator on the next floor, since that is your only checkpoint. Fighting is quick and severe, with an emphasis on parrying, dodging, and taking advantage of enemy weaknesses, and since the resources are scarce, each of your decisions becomes important. The “floor event” system includes random effects such as “oxygen depletion”, “inverted controls”, or “ghost enemies”, all of which greatly change each playthrough. Because of permadeath, players lose progress each time, but they can keep what they unlock permanently, so Thousand Floors offers a taut, addictive, and difficult climb.
