Players of Celestial Return are introduced as a “fallen star”, i.e., a living fragment of a broken constellation who makes their way toward Earth after being tossed out of the stars. There, you have to get your cosmic power back and save a dying Earth that’s in complete turmoil. The main part is stellar alignment, where one has to find scattered stardust and get them to line up according to ancient star maps, so that you are rewarded with new powers. You then solve puzzles, fight shadowy creatures, and make the landscape better with these powers (time manipulation, gravity control, energy projection). The “constellation map” acts as a changing ability tree where each node stands for a forgotten star, which, once activated, gives you either passive or active skills. High-ranked nodes can be unlocked with unique stardust fragments. Fighting involves a combination of distant explosions and cutting with the sword, as well as the possibility to “deflect” and parry enemy projectiles in this skill-based battle system. One of the features that allows you to customize your character is the so-called “astral forge,” where you can mix various pieces of stardust to make different weapons and armor. There will also be multiplayer with a particular “co-op expeditions” gameplay option, which lets two people play a game in the universe simultaneously. “Reincarnation” will serve as the player’s replacement for death, so that the game would not become too tough for a player because of repeated deaths, which is an interesting way to present the theme that the human soul is immortal, and after death, it returns to Earth. The player becomes a “fragment” of their former self with memories retained, and through the reincarnation feature, Celestial Return provides us with a cosmic rebirth journey.
