Pass the Fear is a game that brings together the excitement of social interaction, the intensity of group competition, and the terror of being hunted. It is a game that lets you and your friends take it as an adventure, a challenge, or sometimes a joke. The basic gameplay loop of the game is the “hot potato terror”; you’re the one holding on to the artifact, and a timer starts to run down. You have to pass it along to another participant before the timer runs out; every pass gets the timer restarted, adds one of the following effects: “color swap”, “sound distortion”, or “decoy exits”, which escalates the pressure of the challenge with each turn. A “mind game” system brings in secret roles; for example, one of the players may be a “saboteur, ” who tries to keep the artifact at the moment when it can be used against others to ruin their chance.
