CHROMA LAB is an enchanting package of a particle physics sandbox featuring millions of colorful, reactive particles moving according to real-time fluid dynamics, sound vibrations, and user force fields, mixing art with experimentation. The main gameplay is about particles’ “spectral mixing”, every color of particles (red, green, blue) has a distinct “color charge”; when particles collide, their colors add up (red + green = yellow trails, blue + red = magenta bursts). You can also set the attractors or repulsors that arrange the particles by hue, forming beautiful vortexes of color separation. The “audio reactive” feature enables you to select any sound playback (music, mic input, game sound, etc.) and the particle field will react to it; bass sounds explode in radial bursts, mid frequencies make the waves pulsate, and high ones cause the particles to spin in the opposite direction, so it is the visualization of the song as a live organism of colors. There are three basic tools for you: “gravity wells” (black holes pulled by the mouse that suck particles and fold them in dense knots); “force brushes” (painting of directional flows for pushing particles the way of the wind in the tall grass); and “boundary editors” (drawing of invisible walls, funnels, or mazes for the particles to get through). “Simulation persistence” is a feature that records every particle’s location, speed, and color temperature even when the game is closed, so that you can create scenes of complex particle “species” fighting for territory in the presence of repulsor fields. “Preset library” is a collection of pre-made levels: “Galaxy Sim” is a generation of spiral arms, “Plasma Globe” is the creation of branching electrical discharges, and “Particle Ant Farm” is the making of mazes with food sources and pheromone trails. Competitive multiplayer “chroma clash” mode allows two players, each with a swarm of particles, and you can “capture” the opponent’s particles with color-matching attractors and turn them into your hue.
