Playing Village Merchant, it is a really exciting and engaging game where you will start as a solo employee, and later you will make your business go beyond the borders of your town as a trading emperor. The main gameplay is centered on “price psychology”, every customer has a secret budget and a patience meter; if you set the price very high, you will scare them away, if you set it too low, you will lose some profit, but if you put up nice signs (“Fresh Today!” or “Rare Import”), you get to charge higher prices without the customers starting to haggle. The “seasonal spoilage” system monitors perishable items; berries spoil after two game days, fish after one, but by salting or pickling (using crafting stations that become available by increasing guild reputation), you can improve the shelf life. However, these items will become less appealing to the noble class. Your stall becomes bigger and bigger in the four village tiers (the Muddy Market, the Cobblestone Square, the Guild District, and the Festival Fairgrounds), each coming with different types of customers: farmers who are very careful about their money and buy in bulk, wealthy nobles who pay way over the odds for anything “exotic, ” and merchants who are your competitors and come to check your prices to undercut you. Deliveries matter: you can pick wild raw materials in the woods, talk your way into getting discounts on bulk purchases from traveling caravans, or go to local farms to have a steady supply of mushrooms and herbs, but if you overdo the investment in one supplier, this will cause you to become dependent, and they will raise their prices permanently. The “haggling mini-game” starts when customers put their arms crossed, and then it is a rock-paper-scissors style bluff where you have to match the customer’s facial expressions (smile for confidence, frown for sympathy) to agree on the final price.
