Spyro​‍​‌‍​‍‌ Reignited Trilogy is an excellent remaster that not only keeps intact the authentic 3D platforming of the original PlayStation trilogy but also makes it look absolutely gorgeous with a complete visual overhaul and provides refined modernized controls. At the heart of the game, players are once again treated to an enjoyable blend of exploration, collection, and light puzzle-solving, whereby they are given the energetic purple dragon to scope out and unlock vibrant but also very large and most of the time colorful homeworlds to free his dragonkin that have been caught, and at the same time to retrieve stolen treasure.

Using fire and heat is still his signature move along with the gliding and the helicopter-like hovering maneuvers but what it really feels to be is that they are all now more accessible than before thus making it possible for the player to precisely land the platform on the other side of the deep voids and easily dispatch with the armies of Gnasty Gnorc and Ripto that are filled with wizard-, rhynoc- and alike creatures in a funny manner. In fact, each game world is rather a small, open-ended and empty of obvious solutions type of playground but that is, of course, filled with hidden nooks and crannies, hard-to-find gems, and more or less quirky characters and, thus it is a call for a thorough exploration and, at the same time, it is a motivator to the player, in other words, curiosity is rewarded at every turn. Visually striking as it may be, the trilogy is also a testament to the gradual transformation of the single franchise’s design and style, starting with the extreme openness and pure exploratory joy of the first game, whereby, in the sequels, the player’s tasks become more structured, mission-based, with additionally introduced characters that are playable and diverse in nature. Sporadically, you will control Sparx the Dragonfly, a fiery companion of Spyro, in shooter-based segments that you have to complete, you will awkwardly pilot a gun that fires rockets, and then, you will be able to see the levels through brawny Hunter’s or aquatic Sergeant Byrd’s eyes.
