Sonic​‍​‌‍​‍‌ Frontiers changes the formula of the high-speed platformer by adding the “Open Zone” concept, which frees Sonic from the linear corridors and throws him into the vast, mysterious Starfall Islands, where gameplay transitions smoothly between explosive exploration, pinpoint platforming, and close combat with colossal Titan guardians.
