Ragdoll: Fall Simulator turns an ordinary act of falling into a funny, physics-based sandbox of comedy and chaos. Playing the game is a straightforward and very fun activity where you control a floppy, ragdoll character with limbs flying everywhere and sending them falling, bouncing, and smashing through a series of increasingly crazy obstacle courses. There’s no storyline, no difficult controls, just the pure, undiluted delight of watching a limply animated body speeding down a mountain, crossing a construction site, or going off a big building. The main gameplay is basically a fun round of trying out, failing, and putting on a show. You are standing on a high place, selecting where to go, and then just letting go, observing your ragdoll’s arms and legs flailing, their head hitting the rails, their chest getting a trampoline, and finally, they roll into a swimming pool of jello. The “Objectivity” trademark of the game is its brilliance; areas are loaded with items you can interact with, huge bowling pins, spinning blades, launch pads, giant fans, that react with the ragdoll’s physics in extremely different ways, making every fall a new, funny film. You can make a few minor changes, a quick limb twist, a last-moment weight change, to try and guide your floppy friend toward a goal, a high score, or just the most amazing crash. Position boards save your distance, time, and style points for the most imaginative and disorderly falls. The game is lovable because of its plainness and its welcoming of failure.
