Pumpkin Eater is a light-hearted but challenging action-adventure game that combines the elements of rogue-like and farming simulation, in a rather colorful autumnal world that pumpkins have cursed. In the game, players take on the role of a scarecrow tasked with defending their patch of land against the pumpkin creatures, which are also very mischievous and come to life at night. The gameplay focuses on strategic combat and resource management. Players use implements like scythes, pitchforks, and magical seeds to fight enemies while harvesting crops for potions, upgrades, and defensive structures.

Every night, the waves become increasingly aggressive. With the introduction of new pumpkin types, including explosive Gourdlins, teleporting Jack-o’-Lanterns, and towering Gourd Titans, players must adapt their strategies and tactics accordingly. The days are for exploring randomly generated farms, solving environmental puzzles, and trading with quirky NPCs to acquire new abilities and open new parts of the story.
