HELLMART​‍​‌‍​‍‌ throws you right in the middle of absurd, undead-dominated chaos where you are trying to run a 24/7 supermarket during the apocalypse. It mixes darkly comedic business simulation with frenzied survival gameplay as you struggle to keep the doors open for both human survivors and, well, some less-than-human clients too. As the overwhelmed store manager, the game’s progression is divided into two parts. One is the management of the store’s resources at the head level: This includes resupplying shelves through scavenged canned goods, making market prices for necessities such as ammo or antibiotics, and attending to the needs of traumatised employees with unique combinations of perks and irritations. The other part is the hands-on crisis mode, where you, from time to time, have to take a shotgun to defend the produce aisle from zombie horde, put boards on the windows when the store gets attacked, and either negotiate (or violently dissuade) the survivor groups fighting each other for the supplies. Besides being able to transform the store into a home or a military base, you can also make quite a few improvements inside. You can equip the bakery with turrets, the stockroom with hydroponic farms, and influence crowd behaviour with PA announcements while simultaneously managing two opposing reputations of the store – the evil “Corporate” and the local “Community”, which will give you access to different upgrades and story endings. Thus, this hilarious, perilous combination of balancing acts results in a paradigm of an experience that is both extremely tense and highly satisfying, where a successful shift equates to equally mastering both spreadsheet logistics and headshot accuracy, ultimately showing that customer service is indeed ​‍​‌‍​‍‌hell.
