Within the unlimited survival game world of “Dying Light: The Beast“, the developers have turned the core power fantasy of the series upside down to the point you no longer represent the victual itself but rather the opposite – you, the Night Hunter. Those highly dangerous places, the grim underworld with its sun flaming down on the rooftops beside the alleyways that you know well from previous games, are now the hunting grounds for the PvP players that hubris turned you into the deadliest of them all.

You can picture the gameplay as playing with the mix of those elements: the beast’s raw power and inborn predatory instinct; you can literally see and feel the city beneath your step as you power walk through the streets, propelling yourself over great distances with your fire-like tendrils, mashing a disorienting ground pound on unsuspecting prey, finishing them off with tackle made out of metal and spit that may cause paralysis, stealing kills from opponents and escaping with the increasing destruction of the city around you.

There’s nothing complicated about it; however, it is executed on a very high and tight level: destroy the human survivors’ nests before they can defeat you with UV flares and punishing melee strikes, creating a frantic cat-and-mouse game where you are the cat with nine-inch claws, constantly managing your position against the blinding light that is your only true weakness.

It is a heart-pounding experience that recontextualizes the entire game world, making you the source of the terror that once hunted you, all while demanding tactical cunning to overcome the coordinated, well-armed humans who fight back with the desperate ingenuity of prey that has suddenly become the hunter.
