Skoof Simulator, on the surface, might look like a simple, silly physics-based puzzle game. Still, in reality, it’s a deep game that uses a nice touch of humor to introduce you to the world of a fictional vacuum-like being called Skoof, whose main task is to tidy up the universe filled with scattered particles, debris, and cosmic mess. Playing the game is like a quiet, pleasing dance of discovery, consumption, and clever throwing where the only things used are your “Skoof” (a strong suction skill) and your “Sploot” (a dirty, projectile throw). First, you are placed in a small, procedurally generated 2D sandbox, which is your Skoof house. The sandbox is filled with floating rocks, glowing orbs, and mysterious objects. The basic game is a nice, self-generated puzzle: the player has to bring their Skoof close to the environment objects to absorb them, thus growing bigger and then, using a strategy to throw the absorbed ones in order to get through the puzzles, clear paths, and interact with the world. A remarkable thing that differentiates this game is what we’ve called the “Physics of Mass” concept. Your Skoof is given a virtual mass, and it keeps changing as you absorb different objects. If you are a bigger Skoof, then you are heavier and slower, and apart from being able to absorb bigger objects, you also have a bigger Sploot, which means that you can throw objects more powerfully. On the other hand, a smaller Skoof is quick, can get through small spaces, and can use its Sploot, which is very precise and low-force for doing delicate work. The “Puzzle” concept is really outstanding. There are no direct instructions, just a set of challenges that make you think about mass, momentum, and trajectory. For example, the player may be able to suck a small rock in order to get the needed mass to move a heavy boulder, then Sploot that boulder across the gap to make the bridge. Another example is with the player collecting several glowing orbs to increase their size and then using Sploot as a means of propulsion to cross the chasm.
