DOOM Eternal represents the pinnacle of the evolution of the modern first-person shooter genre. It’s an intense, nonstop, and extremely detailed action game that requires you to perform a complicated combination of moving, managing resources, and engaging in destructive fights with demons. In the game, you will be the Doom Slayer, a being filled with unbounded wrath from the universe, who vanishes any demon repeatedly. So, once more, you will be fighting against the opening of Hell or, more specifically, the violence on Earth, your destruction, and beyond the demon’s realm. The gameplay essentially is a furious, highly energetic “dance” of blood and violence with elements of a “combat arena” that raises the game’s pace and shifts the player’s focus. The game utilizes the “Push Forward” loop, the very core of the game that was handed out in the main game and was sharpened like a razor’s edge call back. It’s basically a series of events that grab hold of your attention and don’t let go, like a drug for your brain. You start by entering a “combat arena”, a circle marked on the ground for the combat. That’s when the game’s soundtrack really gets going, and you have to deal with several demon waves. The title’s revolutionary “Destructible Demons” system changes the game dramatically. Demons don’t just have a health bar anymore; they’re full-on characters with weak spots that you can take down to get rid of their most dangerous moves. For example, if you shoot a Mancubus’s arm cannons, you can stop it from firing fireballs; if you blast a Cacodemon’s eye, you’ll make it vulnerable for a “Glory Kill”; or if you destroy a Revenant’s jetpack, you’ll make it fly wildly around the arena. Mastering the weapon arsenal will be a lot of fun as well, since every gun has its own role, plus the “Mod” system that gives you two powerful options for alternate firing modes. The “Flame Belch” is a weapon that you can use to set fire to the demons, so that when they’re hurt, they’ll drop shards of armor. The “Dash” is a new ability you’ve got that propels you forward quickly and horizontally, and this is a very useful skill for dodging incoming attacks. The music, by Mick Gordon and others, is a pulsating, industrial metal masterpiece that syncs dynamically with your movements, intensifying and diminishing with the pace of the fight.
