Doom 2016 is an unforgiving, adrenaline-charged make-over of the original first-person shooter. It removes all the modern military clichés and delivers the pure, unfiltered, aggressive killing of demons. You are Doom Slayer, an ancient and unstoppable force of wrath, who, through a hellish invasion of a Martian research facility, fights his way out. Gameplay is a beautiful, high-speed mixture of violence and revolves around the game’s amazing central loop: in order to stay alive, you must continuously proceed, confront the demons, and brutally kill them. You enter a room, the music starts, and a demon horde appears. There are no covers, and health does not regenerate. The only source of health is to perform “Glory Kills” on demons. These are first-person brutal finishing moves that get activated when a demon is stunned. You can only get ammo by chainsawing weaker demons. The signature of this game, the combat system known as “Push Forward”, is a stroke of genius. You are always on the move: running, dashing, double-jumping, climbing.
