Virtua Cop 2 is such a trailblazing light-gun shooter that shows off its arcade-style precision, high-energy gameplay, and strategic target prioritization all wrapped up in a roller-coaster ride of an experience. The game is about players who become police officers of a special forces unit. They are equipped with a pistol (or a light gun) and race through six challenging stages filled with the criminal underworld, hostage situations, and explosions. This game is different from those mindless shooters; it requires good reflexes and strategic thinking. Bad guys appear out of nowhere, and the player has to choose carefully who to shoot. Besides that, they have to save the innocents, and the destructible environments are like spider webs that hide the player’s bonuses.

There are no traditional Time Crisis-style duck-and-shoot mechanics; therefore, players have to depend on the fast movement of the reticle, short quick shots to disarm grenade-throwing foes, and precision shooting to combine high-score multipliers. Each mission becomes more and more hectic, starting from a speeding armored train heist to a frantic rooftop fight against helicopter-borne mercenaries. The game’s branching paths add replayability, letting players choose different routes with unique enemy layouts and challenges.

Virtua Cop 2, with its clean, polygonal graphics (unprecedented in 1995), loud sound effects, and highly enjoyable risk-reward gunplay, the last missed shot damages your ranking punch, remains a landmark in the arcade shooter genre and celebrates the days of arcade fame.
