The Unholy Priest is an extremely horrifying psychological horror game involving the gamers in the life of a corrupt priest who has to confront his lost faith and the demonic evil forces in a 19th-century parish in ruins. The gameplay fuses elements from survival horror games and immersive simulators. In that, players go through experiences of exorcising rituals, addressing moral dilemmas, and managing their sanity while exploring a cursed parish where the barrier between reality and spirituality gets thinner and thinner after every prayer. You are equipped with only a few things: a ragged Bible, some holy items, and a dim-light lantern. Your tasks go on to unravel the secrets of the occult, solving some eerie environmental puzzles, and avoiding any attacks from the possessed villagers. Yet, the combat is the last thing you will do.

Your actions, such as the forbidden sacraments or the extension of mercy to the afflicted, will be your respective corruption points. This process will open the way for either the darker powers in you or the Heavenly patronage. Through the “Confession System” feature, the game takes on a new and different aspect as the system makes you return to the horrible occurrences of that time through strange memories. The genius idea of the sounds produced is that of creating whisperings oozing out of the walls and the tolling of the church bells, which, though ghostly, can be found ringing at unearthly hours.

The Unholy Priest, a game with multiple endings that hinge on whether your situation is so dire that redemption is not for you, isn’t just about getting through the night unscathed – at the very center of it all, it’s about the decision to remain faithful to grace or go on to become the very evil you’ve been running from all along.
