In The House of Tesla, you don’t build things, but work as an archivist and an investigator. The gameplay is a nice and scary hybrid of environmental puzzle-solving and spectral analysis. The custom-made ‘Aetheric Resonator’ is your main tool, which enables you to view residual electrical energy left on objects and even walls. By setting up old vacuum tubes and adjusting the dials of your device, you can bring to life long-forgotten machines, but the real hard part is assembling these activations in the correct order.

You must, for instance, first bring nature static from a rattle Tesla Coil in the conservatory to a capacitor in the library, then use that stored charge to set a series of mysterious symbols inscribed in the floorboards of the ballroom alight for a moment, all while dealing with the mansion’s unstable power grid to stop overloads that crash you into darkness and attract the flickering, non-linear “Echoes” of past events that now haunt the halls.

Development is not done through stages but through knowledge, when each circuit rewinds a fragment of time, allowing you to see the main events that led to Tesla’s disappearance and reveal the real, reality-altering nature of his last invention.
