Road Redemption is a combination of fast and furious brutal vehicular combat and rogue-lite progression, which results in a constant and addictive “one more run” loop. You control a motorbike at breakneck speeds, but the essence of the game isn’t just racing; It’s a chaotic ballet of survival, where you have to tear apart rival gangs with violence and an armoury of melee weapons that range from pipes and machetes to katanas. At the same time, you do the precise timing-based swings and counters to knock off the enemies from their bikes. At the same time, you have to balance your bike to avoid being run over.

Why first-person shooting is added to the chaos is still a mystery, but it only makes the gameplay more hectic. You have to aim guns, grenade launchers, etc., at enemies surrounding you, a task that is made way harder if you have to steer through traffic and other environmental hazards at the same time. Every run takes you through a broken America, a world enclosed by a set of missions where you depend on completing certain in-game activities like the assassination of a target, winning a race, or being the last rider alive. Failing at any of these points will send you back to the start.

The heart of the game is the rogue-lite meta-progression. The money made from each campaign run—doesn’t matter if it is short—is invested into a skill tree, which is the permanent upgrade of the rider’s health, strength, and weapon proficiency. You are also allowed to buy better motorcycles with it, thus making it possible for even the failed attempts to become a power build that gradually leads you to the end of the campaign and the next warlord challenge.
