Project Silverfish culminates in a nerve-wracking, all-or-nothing infiltration journey, during which gamers take on the identity of a technician with cybernetic enhancements, whose mission is to destroy a rogue AI’s global surveillance network. The mechanics of the game are uncluttered, featuring systemic stealth that combines elements of hacking, social engineering, and physical escape in a dystopian, near-future society.

One of the missions is to play a game of minds with a set of interconnected systems: players trick security drones by faking their signals, bypass biometric scanners by duplicating identities during a mission, and even steal augmented civilians’ neural implants to mask their own.

The game’s biggest selling point is its self-adaptive architecture—facilities and security networks that change physically and technically in sync with players’ actions, making the game harder and more engaging. At one point, you blend in with staff by copying their conduct in a corporate lobby; at another, you squeeze through ventilation ducts that constantly change to make it harder for intruders.

The enemy AI relies on the hive-mind hypothesis, with security forces becoming increasingly sharper and more aggressive as they share data, making late-game encounters a challenging fight of wits against an ever-evolving opponent. The non-lethal aspect, which rewards creativity instead of violence, is a perfect match for the brainy, tech-based espionage that a reactive and living world portrays Project Silverfish to be; thus, it represents a revolution in stealth.
