Portal Knights is an engaging action-RPG sandbox that expertly combines exploration, fighting, and building with creative tools in a procedurally generated universe. Players set out to conquer the worlds that are suspended in the sky. Each world consists of different biomes, ranging from green forests to flames and fire giants in the volcanic realm. These worlds are connected with magical portals, but to unlock them, one must use energy shards.

The game features three distinct classes (Warrior, Ranger, and Mage), each with customizable skill trees that allow for a variety of play styles. Additionally, the strategic aspect of fighting against monsters like golems, dragons, and dungeon bosses is not overlooked.
