Pluto is a very atmospheric and story-driven puzzle game that uses the sad story of the demoted planet to symbolize themes of loss, identity, and the search for belonging. The meditative first-person gameplay takes you through a beautifully imagined, abstract solar system, where you represent the spirit of Pluto, a planet that has been expelled from the family of planets and cast into the lonely, frozen void of the Kuiper Belt. The main gameplay is a slow rhythm of exploring, reflecting, and remembering. You move around through very pretty, minimalist surroundings, from the most inner part of the system with the gas giants to the cold and faraway parts of the belt, engaging with celestial bodies that are the places where Pluto’s divided memories are stored. The “Gravity” system that the game is known for is its major mechanic: you, as Pluto, have a very light gravitational force that can attract loose particles, comet dust, and even small moons. It is not a fighting gear but a way to make friends. You bring to yourself memories that look like bright balls of light, each one a piece of Pluto’s history, a chat with Jupiter, a view of the sun’s radiance, and the time of its downgrade.
