ODDCORE​‍​‌‍​‍‌ throws players deep into a fragmented, retrofuturistic nightmare where the gameplay is a wonderful blend of classic survival horror, immersion sim logic, and glitch-art visuals, as you are challenged to navigate a crumbling digital reality that is ruled by corrupted, dreamlike laws. Firstly, you walk in non-euclidean worlds—endlessly looping office corridors that turn into CRT-static forests—by changing the underlying “Error Codes” of the world via a hacking minigame that lets you adjust the local physics: for example, you could disable the gravity in a certain room just for the time it takes to get to a high ventilation shaft, or change an enemy’s aggression parameter so that you can easily get past it, or even glitch a locked door so that it reveals a hidden, illogical path. In fighting, you throw, almost without means, a few things at the “Data Phantoms,” which are basically ghosts whose vulnerabilities are connected to certain visual or logical errors that you should create in the surroundings. For instance, you could overload the flickering light panel so that the Phantoms get stunned or delete the texture asset that the Phantom is using. The story is decoded from corrupted text logs, distorted audio transmissions, and the environments within the decaying server architectures, and you have to figure out what really happened to the simulation from a combination of clues that each of these provides. This is an experience that deeply engages the mind and is also very unnerving; the process of solving problems equates to the act of debugging a haunted computer, and the only way to survive is to become comfortable with the disorder so you can exploit the weaknesses of the broken ​‍​‌‍​‍‌world.
