In Homura Hime, a fox-spirit princess who has taken a vow of vengeance, is you. You are a spirit caught between the world of the living and that of the dead. A burning ribbon blade is your weapon. Rhythm-based fighting, intertwined with a sorrowful story of discovering oneself, is the gameplay in a nutshell. The main mechanic is ” ember-memory” synchronization, an enemy is a reflection of the person you have been wronged by in your past life, and to beat it, you must time your ribbon lashes exactly to the rhythm of the sorrowful heartbeats, which are displayed as a spiral of flames coming from the ghostly cores. “Scrollscapes”, in which combat takes place, are vertically divided. They are hand-painted over parchment, which gets burnt in real time as you release your moves.
