Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is a formative action-adventure game that allowed players to literally get their hands on the magic as they learned spells and used them to interact with the environment, thus advancing the plot. Therefore, the game completely changed players’ experience of Hogwarts since it turned the school into a giant puzzle box that could be unlocked and explored via the use of magical spells, interacting with the environment. The storyline followed the central character through the various spells, developing phases of learning and mastering Flipendo (knockback) and Alohomora (unlocking), coming from the precise wand gesture inputs. With a highly Non-Linear Hogwarts Exploration System, players had the freedom to stumble upon secret passages, grab the collectible chocolate frog cards for bonuses, and use the extra classes they attended to upgrade the spell power and learn new abilities such as the Wingardium Leviosa charm that enables levitating objects. The Dueling Club Combat in the game featured a rhythmic spell-casting system where the player had to time their counter-curses correctly. At the same time, the Flying Car and Broomstick Sequences allowed players to experience arcade-style navigation challenges as they flew through the Forbidden Forest and over the Hogwarts grounds.
