Ghost Town is like being dumped into a barren, creepy, and mysterious open-world full of unknown and dangerous creatures where the remains of a mining settlement from a past time are still there, hiding the dark side of the story, and of course, after the unexpected. The player takes the role of a lonely wanderer or a paranormal detective and goes through different abandoned streets, covered in darkness, decayed saloons, and dark mine shafts; however, the task is not only that but also to uncover the tragic history of the town through environmental storytelling, cryptic notes, and ghostly appearances. The gameplay is a mix of survival horror and the immersive sim genre.

The player can scavenge for supplies, solve complex puzzles to access new locations, and fight against spectral entities and outlaws using either period-accurate weapons or improvised tools. The variable weather and the few hours’ cycle bring a significant influence to the gameplay; thus, the daylight is perfect for exploring, and while the darkness is there, the restless spirits that hunt the living are awakened. In addition to the fact that choices do matter, as forging a friendship with NPCs (or betraying) can not only make it possible to get to several endings but also be the only way to stumble upon the truth of the town’s curse, that you will be able to detect only by observing very carefully and having nerve-wracking encounters.

Due to the haunting sound design, procedurally generated events, and the extensively detailed world, Ghost Town brings the player a distinctly spooky experience where every creak and every distant voice could either be a help or a threat.
