Farm For Your Life combines farming simulation and zombie survival elements in a completely unexpected way, giving you the challenge of developing a successful farm at the same time as you need to protect it from waves of zombies that come every night. The game is a crazy, nerve-wracking cycle of working during the day and fighting at night, where the tiniest acts, like planting a seed or improving your fences, can be a critical step toward your survival. Your character starts off living at a rundown farm close to a town overrun by zombies. You learn the rudiments of agriculture, clearing the land, planting crops, watering, and harvesting. The main gameplay is a stressful juggling act; when there is daylight, you are busy managing your farm, extending your fields, and gathering materials needed to construct your defences and improve your tools. The game’s main selling point is the “Dual-Phase” system, which provides the player with two different roles: By day, you are a farmer, your work is developing and enhancing the farm, and at night, the farmer takes a backseat to the survivalist, completely focused on staying alive. Just like in real life, the decision of switching between the farmer and the survivalist roles keeps the player on the edge of their seat. Besides working in the fields, you also engage in activities such as composting, raising animals, and using renewable energy. Supporting your anti-zombie efforts will be the need to produce a high yield of sunflowers to make oil, use the oil to power defences, and have a healthy group of chickens for eggs, which will serve both as food and as a form of currency for trading with the few humans left. But once darkness falls, everything changes, and you are looking at a zombie survival game. Hopefully, you accumulated some weaponry during your farming life, and you pack them to face the night. Defending structures should be maximised by smart placement of barricades, traps, and chokepoints where zombies are caught and killed. Your crops are not just for sustenance; a field of corn can become a maze to slow the undead, while a patch of pumpkins can be rigged to explode.
