eFootball PES 2020 kept its distance from the typical arcade-speed RPG scenes of the market by slowly focusing on a more authentic, tactically football simulation, a quite understandable decision. The heart of the game is the pioneer “FUMA” (Full Manual) passing and shooting system, which, as far as I know, is the only mode in the game, but in any case, it stands for the game’s approach: to player skills and insight instead of assisted results. The new “Stunning” shot and pass feature, which is a very risky and very rewarding system that allows you to simultaneously charge a very powerful and defence-penetrating action while at the same time increasing the length of the animation and rate of the mistake, is used here as well to strengthen this idea. On top of that, the physical side of the player clashes is more noticeable than ever before, with the main features being clever jostling, shielding, and using the ball in the right way; thus, obviously, the physics of the real world and stats such as Balance and Physical Contact are used in every single confrontation for possession.

Besides the playing mechanisms on PITCH, PES 2020 introduced the best of its content through a very well-crafted “Matchday” mode that essentially brought the entire football world’s trends into one, synchronizing the online and single-player’s face-offs of the game with actual football matches in the real world. The players had a chance to choose their teams, FC Barcelona or Manchester United, and get down to work in the ongoing rivalries, completing objectives to earn points for the club they picked in a live event driven by the community. Along with this, the famous “Master League” has been completely revamped with a new look, interactive press conferences, and a more authentic transfer market, while “myClub” mode got the legendary “Legend” players with the latest skill cards. Although there were the same old complaints about the lack of fully licensed teams, PES 2020’s dedication to being the pure football simulation, giving the game more strategic depth, and coming up with the innovative live-service “Matchday” concept made it a very good choice for football ​‍​‌‍​‍‌purists.
