Playing Dawn Bell, players play a last sentinel who awakens in a forgotten sanctuary where the sun itself is a weapon and darkness is a relentless enemy, blending atmospheric survival horror with innovative light-based combat. Dawn Bell’s gameplay loop relies heavily on “light harvesting”. It involves going inside the shadows that are creeping to take your belongings back to you (a dawn fragment) and getting them from your dead celestial being friend. Afterwards, that fragment is used to get light and then to shield yourself from enemies by light, and finally, to use the powerful beams against the shadow creatures. You’ll see that a lot of the enemies will get disintegrated easily. Your “bell” is your most useful weapon. It’s a heavy tool, and when you hit it several times, you can reveal new ways to get around, stun, protect a small area from you or others with light. A shadow gauge will measure how much darkness is approaching. When it rises, a lot of things happen. Your sight becomes more limited, your movements become slower, and foes start to be more violent towards you. This is going to push you to discover and use the “light wells”, where you restore the light balance of the world. Exploring these cursed areas, including Drowned Cathedral, Ashen Forest, Hollow Mines, Shattered Steppe, and Obsidian Spire, you would experience a lot of the broken architectural features, challenging environments, and mysterious tales that are buried under them. The player receives memory as a reward for completing their journey, which gives them a visual of the pre-eternity world, helps them understand a mission, and even offers some cryptic tips. “Multiplayer” mode consists of the “lightkeeper” co-op feature, in which the two of you would take turns controlling the one who wields the bell and the other who holds the lantern; it’s a joint survival effort. The game is a deeply immersive and emotionally disturbing experience that leads you through the darkness.
