Bum: Revenge is a darkly humorous, top-down brawler that has you playing as a disheveled, whiskey-swilling hobo, Rufus, who is on a mission of hell-bent destruction to young yuppie elites who gentrified his alley and abandoned him for dead. Rufus, who is making use of a rusty grocery cart, a broken bottle, and his sidekick, a rabid raccoon, brawls throughout neon-lit city forests. From grimy backstreets to pretentious rooftop bars, racers will be unleashing over-the-top, slapstick violence on suited bankers, hipster baristas, and corrupt cops. The combat is a very disorderly mix of drunken fistfights, environmental takedowns (smashing heads into dumpsters, tossing enemies into oncoming traffic), and “Trash Magic” special moves – like summoning a swarm of rats or hurling a Molotov cocktail that is made up of mouthwash and newspaper.

The game’s “Rage & Booze” system makes it possible for Rufus to get powered up by chugging liquor and thus, utilizing sobriety for firepower (but with an increasingly wobbly and devastating effect) while a morality meter enables you to monitor if you are fighting for justice or simply just pure, unfiltered spite. In addition to the rogue-lite elements and the randomized spawning of the enemies, the destructible world of Bum: Revenge is a raucous, satirical rampage wherein the underdog plays dirty – and no matter how messy, it’s still great fun.
