The Kung Fu Panda game, notably the one based on the first film, is a splendid example of how developers have managed to convey the same mixture of zany humour and brilliant martial arts that one can find in the movie directly into a colourful and very user-friendly action-adventure game. Playing the game is quite a smooth and gratifying combination of environmental platforming and combo-based fighting, where one can control the awkward but highly Po with his moves that we have seen in the Jade Palace, the Valley of Peace, and other places. Weighty and intuitive are the qualities that define combat, which revolves around a simple but very expressive system of light and heavy attacks that can be further chained to bone-crushing “Awesome” finishers; thus, the fantasy of the Dragon Warrior defeated is captured very well.

Special “Fury” attacks are one of the modes through which Po’s singular brand of mayhem and total belly-flopping-like power can be observed; thus, after a quick activation, the fan will see his field of vision being invaded by Tai Lung’s wolf henchmen vanishing in a matter of seconds. Besides fighting, the game has included some light puzzle-solving and exploration, which most of the time requires Po to use his trademark heaviness innovatively; for example, he may have to perform a powerful ground pound to release the switch or get into the giant metal rice cooker and roll down to destroy the obstacles.

Gameplay never lacks in giving the players new moves and health upgrades; thus, the player is endowed with the feeling of following the evolution of the character, from the panda who is always falling down the stairs of the palace to the one who can master the Wuxi Finger Hold.
