The first original Mafia, which appeared for the first time in 2002, is a very innovative action-adventure game that has put together an open-world exploration with a linear story in a very skillful way. It allows one to locate oneself in the fictional city of Lost Heaven, in a situation in the thirties. The hero of the game, Tommy Angelo, who is a taxi driver, is the one who takes the player through wheeling and dealing in the world of organized crime. The game includes three components and a narrative: third-person shooting, driving, and occasional stealth. The shooting, brutal by today’s standards, was original in its time, giving players a realistic approach to handling weapons and combat and thus bringing the latest technology to software development. Besides, the driving issue has a lot to do with it, especially since one has to operate period cars that require a certain level of skill to get through, particularly during high-speed getaways.

As flawed as it might be, The World Lost is not as extensive as the new game titles; still, it has many detailed attributes that give a good glimpse of the times of prohibition and make the players feel like they are a part of that era. The tasks are imparted and included; thus, it is usually tricky, some of which are based on intense shootouts and car chases, while the remaining ones include the act of stealth and threat stuff like following the targets or planting the bombs. The game’s difficulty also caught the eye with infrequent save points and the powerful AI, making the players try things several times before passing a level.

However, Mafia (2002) is a beautiful story that is very atmospheric, with characters that we all remember, and the moral side showing the high cost of a life of crime is another plus. The modern game scene has been influenced positively by the game’s combining gameplay mechanics with a cinematic narrative, which acted as a role model for the next narrative-driven games.
