ASTRONEER is an adorable, vibrant adventure style where the player is an astronaut who has to colonize and live on procedurally generated planets. Peculiar features of the game are the importance of creativity and appropriate management of resources. The Terrain Tool allows players to change the environment, abstract valuable resources, and build structures necessary for existence. Resources are needed for making items, refining equipment, and charging vehicles, forcing players to go through caves, mountains, and various biomes. The free-roaming and almost fully explorable environment lets players go on a discovery quest in gigantic planets teeming with extraterrestrial and, often, secret amenities and deviously placed lethal traps and obstacles. The combination of those games’ exploration with such strict definitions of what is necessary to achieve in terms of oxygen, natural perils, etc., makes for a great experience.
There are many features in ASTRONEER, but cooperation is one of the best, as is demonstrated in the multiplayer option where four players are supported. Cooperation arises in the midst of the game when players must work together when constructing bases, moving resources around the planet, and tackling challenges. Every square of the game’s terrain is surrounded by several connections, allowing for highly variable power configurations, as well as more complex research facilities and equipment layouts.
It’s also possible for the players to design their own rovers and shuttles in case they want to go to far-off land or another planet in the same solar system. Because the game is a sandbox, goals are set by the player on their own, which stimulates creativity and develops problem-solving skills as the player completes tasks in one or another manner. Whether you are going alone or with your friends, ASTRONEER offers that game with vast, social, and, most importantly, fun potential.
